What are good areas in the east bay to move to if I'll be working in San Francisco?
I'm moving to Cali early next year from Jersey and need some advice about moving there. Just wondering if the East Bay is my best bet, if there are any affordable but nice complexes over there and if I should think aboout finding a roommate. Also, I have a small dog so that would be a factor as well. Any advice is appreciated! Thanks! by the way, affordable meaning 1700 or less by myself.

- For 1,700.00 you could afford SF. The best place in the EB is San Leandro or San Lorenzo. Parts of Hayward are nice too. If you are going to have a car and drive to SF, the best place to live would be Alameda. They don't have any direct public transportation to SF from Alameda, you would have to take the bus and transfer a couple of times. Bart does however run through San Leandro and Hayward and goes directly into SF. Stay out of Oakland, can get dangerous.
- the towns of lafeyette, walnut creek and concord are very nice. close to freeways and bart. at around 1700 you should be well positioned to find many options w/o a roommate.many apts will accept pets for a fee.
- Maybe try SF first. You may find something in the Avenues, Potrero Hill or the Mission you may like. The commute involves a bridge. (East Bay or Marin) Bridge bad... If you do move to the East Bay, I think looking for a place close to a BART station would be the way to go. Take the train in. I prefer Oakland or Berkeley in the East Bay.
- Go further east to Martinez I know many who commute from there every day for years or Pleasant Hill avoid Oakland or Vallejo. Walnut Creek and Concord are great but VERY expensive. Good luck.
