How do i audit a policy document? What areas should I look at and how should it be written?

I have been asked to audit a policy to see if it meets the national requirements. I know I need to basically compare the company policy to the national recommendations to see if everything is covered, but how should it be written? What sections should the audit include?

  1. Google audit tools for the national requirements - there are often ready-made ways of doing this. Check your company's auditing policy, write a brief introduction to your findings, explaining how you complied with the procedures laid down by your company for internal auditing, then present the audit results.
  2. you need to get a copy of the standard you are going to measure against. Break it doen into it's main headings - basically the table of contents. If possible get an explanatory guide to the national standars do you understand what they are trying to achieve. Then compare your company standard to it under categories: Items in National Standard not covered by your standard Items covered by your standard where there is room for improvement. Items where your standard matches the natinoal standard. You should also look at who needs to know and apply the standard and if the correct process is in place to communicate and educate those people about the standard. Also you shoul see if there is a process for reviewing and maintaining the standard to ensure its kept up to date. Hope this helps
